LIBRARIES – Fnac-Darty, “faced with the impossibility of opening up all the players in the book trade” in the context of the reconfinement of “non-essential” businesses, announced on Friday 30 October that it would be closing “all the culture departments” of Fnac-Darty stores for the next 15 days.
This closure, which will take effect from tomorrow (Saturday) morning”, was decided “in a concern of responsibility”, in the words of boy general manager Enrique Martinez, while independent bookstores are forced to remain closed.
These stores are not part of the list of so-called “essential” stores authorized by the government to remain open during the confinement. However, they can make deliveries or propose the withdrawal of orders, at the door of the store(click and gather).
On social networks, some writers and actors of the book world have found the decision of Fnac-Darty completely absurd, as can be read on the tweets below
Joann Sfar sees it as a “world championship of bullshit”, while Christian Delporte wonders whether the next step will be to close “the bookshop shelves of supermarkets” or “the book shelves of newspaper houses”. World bullshit championship maintained!
