Merkel on Vienna: Islamist terror is our common enemy
08.39:00: Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel testified to Germany’s solidarity with Austria after the terrorist attack in Vienna. “Islamist terror is our common enemy. The fight against these murderers and their instigators is our common fight”, said Merkel after a Twitter message from government spokesman Steffen Seibert. “We Germans stand in sympathy and solidarity at the side of our Austrian friends”
She said that “in these terrible hours” her thoughts were with the people of Vienna and the security forces. Her sympathy was for the relatives of the victims, and she wished those who had been injured a full recovery.

Söder was horrified by the attack in Vienna
08.05 Uhr: Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) expressed his horror at the deadly attack in Austria’s capital Vienna. “We are shocked,” he wrote on Twitter Tuesday morning. Compassion is for the victims, injured and relatives. “We stand firmly on the side of Austria.” At least three passers-by were killed in the attack the night before. One of the attackers was shot dead by the police.
