 Donald Trump’s Second Impeachment Trial Set to Start in February in Senate

Former President Donald Trump‘s second impeachment trial is anticipated to start in the U.S. Senate during the 2nd week of February, according to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer

In January, your house impeached Trump for his role in supposedly inciting a riot at the U.S. Capitol. Trump fans were able to go into the Capitol while Congress was in the middle of certifying President Joe Biden‘s victory in the electoral college. During flooring remarks, Schumer stated that briefs for Trump’s Senate trial will be drawn up by both parties for discussion start “the week of February the 8th.”

Trump was a day none of us will ever forget,” Schumer said. “We all wish to put this dreadful chapter in our country’s history behind us. And healing and unity will just come if there is fact and accountability, and that is what this trial will offer.”

While some Democrats wished to schedule Trump’s trial as rapidly as possible, Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell suggested postponing the trial till February in order to permit legal groups enough time to prepare their arguments.
