He needed an easy majority in the Democratic-controlled chamber to be validated.As secretary of the vast department, Vilsack will oversee about 100,000 employees accountable for food stamps, crop insurance coverage, land preservation and other missions at a time U.S. farmers are gaining from high soybean and corn costs but hunger is on the rise
