 Vienna: Carry and injured after attack in Austria

In Vienna , a large-scale police operation is under way following the terrorist attack on Monday evening. What is known so far:

  • Around 8 pm numerous emergency calls reached the Vienna police: shots were fired in the city centre. The first to be fired was near the synagogue in Seitenstettengasse, and one police officer was also seriously injured, said the Austrian Minister of the Interior, Karl Nehammer.

    • The death toll has risen to at least three: one passer-by was killed by the perpetrators. During the night, a woman injured in the attack died in a hospital. In a press conference the death of one more person was announced.

    • Altogether pass away Viennese rescue services and the mayor of Vienna report that about 15 people were injured, pass away are currently being treated in the hospitals of the city. Seven of them are seriously injured, including the police officer. Michael Binder, head of the Vienna hospitals, said on ORF: “Fortunately, no more injured people have been admitted since 10:10 p.m.”
